Memory Care Community Insider

A Monthly Look Inside Aravilla Clearwater

Atmosphere of Love!

February is upon us, and the season of love is in full bloom. Throughout the month, we will be offering a variety of engaging activities designed to celebrate the spirit of Valentine’s Day while fostering creativity, connection, and enjoyment. Residents are invited to participate in our heart-shaped cookie cooking class on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m., as well as love-themed art and craft sessions held Thursdays at 2:00 p.m. in the Promenade. These thoughtfully planned activities for our memory care residents promise both fun and inspiration for all. In addition to our weekly offerings, we are pleased to host several special moments throughout the month that encourage togetherness and celebration. Whether you are expressing creativity, enjoying sweet treats, or sharing laughter with friends, there will be something for everyone to enjoy as we embrace this festive season. We invite you to join us on Valentine’s Day for an afternoon of sweet treats and refreshments during our music entertainment hour with Shadow Music at 3:00 p.m. in the Promenade. We look forward to celebrating love, joy, and community with you. Join us as we make meaningful memories and share heartfelt moments all month long.

Senior Prom!

Love is in the air! In celebration of our wonderful senior residents, we are pleased to host a special Valentine’s-themed event on February 13th. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., residents will have the opportunity to share their senior portraits, prom photos, and high school yearbooks as we reminisce and reflect on cherished memories from years past. Following this nostalgic gathering, we will host a Senior Prom at 3:00 p.m., offering our memory care residents the chance to recreate a treasured memory or, for those who were unable to attend their senior prom, to experience the magic of prom for the first time. Residents are encouraged to dress in semi-formal attire, and loved ones are warmly invited to join in the celebration. We are grateful to Random Acts of Flowers for generously donating corsages and boutonnieres for all residents, adding a special touch to the occasion. During the prom, guests will enjoy delicious desserts and refreshments while dancing to music from the golden days, provided by Mallory M., sure to transport everyone back in time.

Resident Spotlight:
“Rebekah C.”

welcoming new residents at Aravilla ClearwaterWe are delighted to celebrate Rebekah C. as a cherished member of our Aravilla family!
Rebekah was born in Drakes Branch, Virginia, where she spent her formative years. She graduated from Randolph Henry High School in Charlotte Courthouse, Virginia, before continuing her education at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. Rebekah later pursued advanced studies at Florida State University, earning both her master’s degree and PhD in music.

Her passion for music began at an early age while playing the organ for her local church and learning to play the piano, trumpet, and several other instruments. At just 12 years old, with special permission from her mother—and a firm conversation with the local sheriff—Rebekah was allowed to drive herself to church for organ practice, a testament to her dedication. She began her distinguished career as a band conductor at Wichita Falls College in Texas and later joined Potsdam University in Potsdam, New York, near Lake Placid, where she served as a music professor for more than 30 years before retiring. Rebekah made history as the first female collegiate band conductor in the United States. A highlight of her career was being selected to conduct the orchestra at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics, where she also had the memorable opportunity to take a photograph with the U.S. hockey team following their gold medal victory.

Throughout her life, Rebekah has enjoyed traveling to destinations such as Sweden for the Sjöholm Cup, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Key West, her favorite vacation spot. In her free time, she enjoys playing bingo, golfing, having competed as an amateur for many years and relaxing with a glass of wine. She and her husband later retired to Florida. We are delighted to have Rebekah as part of our community and invite everyone to extend a warm welcome.
